Hotel Description
I remember stepping off the train at Verona Porta Nuova and thinking, well, this is going to be a hike with my bags, but honestly, it wasn’t bad at all – just a quick 15-minute walk straight down Corso Porta Nuova, dodging a few cyclists, and there I was on Via Carlo Cattaneo. The Emily Luxury Apartment is tucked right into the historical center, at number 19, and let me tell you, it’s one of those spots that feels like you’ve scored a secret hideaway amid all the ancient stone and bustling piazzas. I arrived in the late afternoon, during that golden hour when the sun hits the Verona skyline just right, and the host – this super friendly local named Marco – met me at the door with a key code and a quick rundown. No fuss, no long check-in line like at those big hotels; it was more like crashing at a stylish friend’s place. The apartment itself? Oh man, it’s got this sleek, modern vibe with high ceilings and these massive windows that let in the sounds of the city – you know, distant church bells from the Duomo and the occasional scooter zipping by on nearby Via Roma. But it’s not overwhelming; actually, the double-glazed glass keeps things surprisingly quiet at night, which is a godsend if you’re jet-lagged like I was.
What really sold me on the place was how it blends luxury with that lived-in feel – think plush king-size bed with linens that smell faintly of lavender (they must use some fancy Italian detergent), a full kitchen stocked with basics like olive oil and espresso pods, and even a little balcony where I sipped my morning coffee watching folks head to the market on Piazza delle Erbe, just a five-minute stroll away. I mean, you’re literally steps from the Arena di Verona – I caught an opera there one evening, and walking back felt effortless, no taxis needed. Parking’s a bit of a nightmare in this pedestrian zone, though; if you’re driving, I’d park at the underground lot near Piazza Cittadella and walk the rest (it’s only about 10 minutes). And sure, the stairs up to the second floor might be a drag with heavy luggage – no elevator, which is par for the course in these old buildings – but once you’re in, it’s pure comfort. The bathroom’s a highlight too, with one of those rain showers that make you linger, and the Wi-Fi was rock-solid for streaming or whatever. Verona gets packed in summer with tourists flocking to Juliet’s House (which is ridiculously close, by the way, on Via Cappello), but staying here in the off-season, like early fall, lets you enjoy the quieter side – fewer crowds, and the air smells crisp with hints of roasting chestnuts from street vendors.
All in all, if you’re after a 4-star spot that feels more like a luxury home base than a sterile hotel room, Emily’s the way to go – that 9.6 rating isn’t hype; it’s earned. I’ve stayed in fancier places, but this one sticks with me for the authenticity, you know? It’s perfect for couples or solo travelers wanting to immerse in Verona’s romance without the chaos. Just book ahead, especially around the opera festival in June, and pack light – those cobbled streets aren’t kind to wheeled suitcases. I’d go back in a heartbeat, honestly.

Very comfortable apartment one minute away from the Arena. All the other sights within easy reach. Also very handy to catch a bus from Piazza Bra up to the station for visits to Padua, Mantova and Lake Garda. Some lovely local restaurants just away from the main tourist area.

The apartment was as beautiful as the photos suggested and in a fantastic location, just a few minutes walk away from the arena. A perfect location for anyone planning to see an opera at the arena. The host spoke good English and sent us some helpful suggestions for places to eat etc.
