Look, I’ll be honest with you – when I first walked up to Hotel Porta Palio, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes these mid-range spots surprise you in the best way possible. The building itself has this understated charm that grows on you, and after spending a few nights there, I actually found myself preferring it to some of the flashier places I’ve stayed at in Verona.

What really won me over was how the staff treated you like an actual person instead of just another booking number. The guy at reception – I think his name was Marco – genuinely seemed to care about whether you had a good stay. He’d ask how your day went when you came back from wandering around the city, and he actually listened to the answer. The rooms are clean and comfortable without being fancy, which honestly is all you need when you’re spending most of your time exploring anyway. I mean, the bathroom could use a slight update, but the shower pressure was surprisingly good, and the bed was one of those that’s just firm enough without feeling like you’re sleeping on concrete. The 8.3 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be something it isn’t, but it does what it promises really well.

The location ended up being perfect for my trip, though I didn’t realize it at first. You’re close enough to the historic center that you can easily walk to all the main sights, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with tourist crowds right outside your window at 7 AM. There’s this great little café about two blocks away where the locals actually go for breakfast – much better than the overpriced spots near the arena, trust me. And if you’re driving (which I was), parking wasn’t the nightmare I expected it to be in a city like this. The hotel doesn’t have its own garage, but there’s street parking that’s not impossible to find if you’re willing to walk a few minutes. Honestly, for the price point, Hotel Porta Palio delivers exactly what you want from a place to stay – it’s clean, the people are nice, and you don’t feel like you’re being gouged just because you’re a tourist. I’d definitely stay there again.

  It is a great deal for the price! Room is clean and comfy, breakfast is good and location is about good 20min walking from old town. Overall the experience was great!

  Friendly staff, nicely clean and cosy room, delicious breakfast! We booked this hotel in the last minute as other hotel let us down cancel our stay at the last minute. But in the end we realised that it was for luck cos Porta Palio is much better and wirh a better location. The city centre is in the walking distance. Highly recommend

  What could be improved: Big sign in hallway which said, "be quiet, someone is sleeping".. great, but we got woke up an hour early by very noisy cleaning staff.. sounded as though they were in each of the surrounding rooms. Vacuuming, talking, moving furniture, smell of ammonia.. for over 2 hours, the hallway was a maze of cords, cleaning trawlies, buckets, supplies.. Difficult to walk and unable to roll our luggage out..
