Il Relais Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Il Relais on Corso Castelvecchio, you immediately sense you’ve found something special. This four-star boutique hotel sits right in the heart of Verona‘s historical center, and honestly, the location couldn’t be more perfect. The building itself has that understated Italian elegance — you know, the kind where they don’t need to shout about how beautiful they are because it’s just obvious. What really struck me was how quiet it feels despite being so central, which is actually pretty rare in Verona’s busy centro storico.
The Perfect Location
I mean, when couples rate the location 9.8 out of 10, there’s definitely something to that. You’re literally steps away from Castelvecchio Castle — I could see it from my window — and the Adige River is right there for those evening strolls that make Verona so romantic. The Arena di Verona is maybe a five-minute walk, and Juliet’s House (yes, that one) is even closer. But here’s what I really appreciated: you can actually walk everywhere without dealing with the tourist crowds until you choose to. The little side streets around the hotel are perfect for discovering those family-run trattorias that locals actually frequent.
The Room Experience
My room was beautifully appointed without being fussy about it. The design strikes this nice balance between modern comfort and Italian character — think exposed beams but with excellent air conditioning (trust me, you’ll want that in summer). The beds are genuinely comfortable, and the bathrooms are well-designed with good water pressure, which honestly matters more than you’d think after a day of sightseeing. What I loved most was the attention to detail — quality linens, proper lighting for reading, and windows that actually open so you can hear the city waking up in the morning.
Practical Perks
Here’s something that’ll save you headaches: they have private parking available, which is basically gold in Verona’s historic center. Most hotels just shrug and tell you to figure it out yourself, but Il Relais actually takes care of this for you. The staff genuinely knows the area well — they gave me restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots, and their suggestions for timing visits to popular sites were spot-on. The 24-hour front desk isn’t just there for show either; they’re actually helpful when you need them.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.8 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen — it reflects what you actually experience here. The hotel manages to feel intimate and personal while still providing all the services you’d expect from a quality property. You’re staying in the real Verona, not some sanitized tourist bubble, but with all the comfort and service that makes a trip memorable rather than stressful. Whether you’re here for the opera season, exploring the wine regions, or just soaking up one of Italy’s most romantic cities, Il Relais gives you the perfect home base without any of the usual compromises you make with location versus quality.

Reviews of Il Relais
Mike from United States – 25 February 2025 (10/10)
When we entered the property we were impressed with the decor and the size of the rooms. It really was a storybook accomodation. The breakfast was ample. The location was very close to the main shopping area.
What could be improved: As I recall, the reviewed mentioned gardens. In fact there is an attraction across the street that probably has gardens. It was more like an urban flat. That said, the city is very beautiful and walkable and felt safe. So maybe don't emphasize gardens since they really weren't a highlight in a way, of course they probably wouldn't be in bloom in February when we went.John from Australia – 7 November 2024 (10/10)
Great location on the edge of all key attractions. Beautiful large room with exceptional view. Staff were amazing. I have stayed in lots of hotels and this hotel had one of the best breakfasts I have experienced, lots of choice, all very fresh produce and eggs perfectly cooked to order. I will absolutely go back and highly recommend this boutique hotel
What could be improved: Nothing! Ok if you force me to pick something, the room door lock made a loud buzzing noise when you used the keycard swipe to open it 🤭Lily from United States – 20 October 2024 (10/10)

The breakfast was exceptional and the service was superb. The location is right on the edge of the Old Town with all that has to offer, and opposite the castle. Everything is within an easy walking distance. The Hotel secret weapon is Naima who was very welcoming and could not do enough for us.

It was close to everything yet also tucked out of the crazy busy area. Just across the street from the castle and river walk and a few mins walk from anything you want to see

One of the most beautiful and spacious rooms I have ever stayed in – thoughtfully decorated with sumptuous fabrics and finishes. Every detail was thought of including a bowl of fresh fruit and chocolates, robes and slippers. Great location with balconies overlooking the Castelvecchio. And if that weren't enough, it is managed by the wonderful, warm Naima, who is at the ready to help with whatever you might need. This is a one-of-a-kind, absolutely exceptional lodging.
What could be improved: Totally exceeded my expectations!
