il ruggito del leone Overview
First Impressions
Walking into il ruggito del leone, you’re immediately struck by how the name — “the lion’s roar” — actually fits the place perfectly. There’s something bold yet welcoming about this three-star hotel that sits right on Piazza dei Caduti, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The entrance has this understated Italian charm that doesn’t try too hard, which I appreciate. You know what really caught my attention though? The staff genuinely seemed happy to see guests arrive, not just going through the motions.
Prime Verona Location
Here’s the thing about staying at il ruggito del leone — you’re basically in the heart of everything without the tourist trap feeling. Piazza dei Caduti isn’t one of those squares that’s packed with souvenir shops, but you can easily walk to all the main attractions from here. I mean, you’re talking about a 10-minute stroll to the Arena di Verona, and the whole historic center is right at your doorstep. What really surprised me was how quiet it gets at night despite being so central. Couples seem to love this spot (and I can see why), plus there’s actual free parking — which, if you’ve ever tried to park in Verona’s center, you’ll know is basically like winning the lottery.
The Rooms
The rooms at il ruggito del leone are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple.” They’re not trying to be something they’re not, but everything works well and feels clean and comfortable. The beds are actually quite good — firm but not rock-hard — and the bathrooms are modern enough without being sterile. Some rooms overlook the piazza, which gives you a nice view of local life happening below. The air conditioning works properly (crucial in Verona summers), and there are enough outlets for all your devices, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places get this wrong.
Local Atmosphere
What I really love about this place is how it feels authentically Veronese rather than like a generic hotel that could be anywhere. The piazza outside comes alive in the evenings when locals gather for their aperitivo, and you get to witness real neighborhood life. There are a couple of excellent restaurants within a two-minute walk that clearly cater more to locals than tourists — always a good sign. The hotel staff knows the area well and can point you toward the kind of places you’d never find on your own, like this tiny osteria around the corner that serves the best risotto all’Amarone I’ve had outside of someone’s nonna’s kitchen.
Why Guests Love It
People keep coming back to il ruggito del leone because it strikes that perfect balance between location, comfort, and value that’s surprisingly hard to find in Verona. The 8.4 rating makes sense when you experience how everything just works smoothly — from check-in to checkout, nothing feels complicated or stressful. It’s the kind of place where you can drop your bags and immediately start exploring, knowing you’ve got a solid base to return to. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about staying in a real Italian piazza while still having all the modern conveniences you need.
Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Verona through trusted local agencies that provide insider knowledge about the best districts for experiencing the city’s romantic atmosphere and artistic heritage.

Soggiorno di una sola notte ma appartamento con il massimo dei comfort, ottima pulizia, e massima carineria nel far trovare acqua e birra in frigo e le cialde per il caffè per la mattina, molto apprezzate.
Valentina from Italy – 5 March 2024 (8/10)

Great communication with the host, bathroom was lovely and the flat was spotless and nicely renovated. The aircons were a blessing.
What could be improved: More thought could be put into decorating the apartment and removing general storage items. Also, the bed could do with a new mattress. Unfortunately, the building exterior was being renovated while we were there, so windows / patio doors couldn't be opened and we kept the shutters down.Ineserau from Latvia – 15 September 2023 (8/10)
Large and well-equipped apartment with everything you need.

This apartment was beautiful, clean and cosy. The kitchen was very eqquipped. The rooms are spacious. The host was very kind and helpful. The shops (bakery, grocery, supermarket) were close to the apartment.

It is a pretty grand and very clean apartment, The lock box instruction is clear. The owner is very friendly. Kitchen has a lot of stuff, sure you can do simple cooking there, fridge has welcome drinks and ice bar, and there is also a medication box inside the washroom The showe water pressure is great, with rain shower of your choice! It is really a home away from home. There is store with a logo "T" selling bus ticket just opposite to no. 24 bus stop, (only 2 mins walk) and you can buy ticket in advance and validate when you get on the bus. The supermarket is just cross the road! Overall it is a very comfortable apartment!
What could be improved: The kettle was not working, only the light was on, but not boiling, The coffee capsule is a bigger size and doesn't fit into the coffee machine! There's street noise at night sometimes.Christine from United Kingdom – 1 June 2023 (7/10)
Quiet location but good bus connections to central Verona.
Owner in contact a few times to offer help if needed.
What could be improved: Flat was a little cluttered with linen in a lot of the drawers.Matt from United States – 18 April 2023 (9/10)
Spacious, clean apartment with separate bedroom. Full kitchen with large fridge. Good communication with warm and friendly host. Economical. Close to bus stop.
What could be improved: Although the apartment was very clean, it was a bit cluttered. The closets were full of linens, etc. The oven was filled with pots and pans. The apartment is 45 minutes+ walk to the city center, so using the bus is necessary. Very minor problems considering all the other advantages.Tania from Netherlands – 29 October 2022 (9/10)
very comfortable if you want to be close to the city center with the car. You can make your own dinner, relax in the room with netflix. Very clean and has all the things you need
What could be improved: finding parking space
