Il Tenore B&B Overview
I remember stumbling upon Il Tenore B&B during a whirlwind trip to Verona last summer – you know, right in the thick of opera season when the Arena’s buzzing with crowds and those dramatic arias echoing through the streets. It’s tucked away on Via Catullo 12, just a stone’s throw from Piazza delle Erbe, which honestly feels like the beating heart of the historical center. I mean, you step out the door and you’re basically in the middle of all that ancient Roman charm, with the Torre dei Lamberti looming nearby and those narrow cobblestone alleys leading straight to Juliet’s balcony – yeah, the one from Romeo and Juliet, though it’s more touristy than romantic these days. Parking was a bit of a nightmare, as it is anywhere in Verona’s old town; I ended up ditching the car at a lot near the river Adige and walking the last few blocks, but once I arrived, the check-in was a breeze. The owner – this warm Italian guy who actually sings opera snippets if you ask – greeted me like an old friend, handing over a key to one of their cozy rooms on the second floor. No fancy lobby or anything, just a creaky wooden staircase that smells faintly of fresh laundry and espresso from the breakfast nook downstairs.
What really won me over, though, was how Il Tenore feels like staying at a friend’s place rather than some sterile hotel – it’s a proper B&B, after all, with only a handful of rooms that nod to Verona’s musical heritage (think framed opera posters and little touches like a vintage gramophone in the common area). My room was simple but spotless, with high ceilings, a comfy bed that actually let me sleep through the occasional street noise from Via Mazzini shoppers below – well, mostly; it gets lively around dinner time when folks spill out from the nearby trattorias. Breakfast was a highlight: served in this sunlit courtyard (if the weather’s good, which it usually is in spring), with homemade crostata tarts, cappuccinos strong enough to wake the dead, and fresh fruit that tastes like it was picked that morning. Honestly, it’s not luxurious – no pool or spa, and the Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak hours – but that’s sort of the charm. I spent evenings chatting with other guests over a glass of Valpolicella wine the host recommends, swapping tips on avoiding the tourist traps around Castelvecchio. And if you’re into the opera festival, it’s perfect; I walked to the Arena in under 10 minutes, dodging gelato vendors along the way.
All in all, if you’re looking for an authentic slice of Verona without breaking the bank – it’s a solid 3-star spot with an 8.8 rating for good reason – Il Tenore’s where it’s at. Sure, it might feel a tad cramped if you’re traveling with a big group, and summers can get humid in those old buildings, but the location and that personal vibe make up for it tenfold. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in the quieter fall months when the leaves turn and the crowds thin out. You know what? Book it for a weekend, wander the historical center at dusk when the church bells ring, and you’ll see what I mean – it’s the kind of place that sticks with you.

What could be improved: There’s nothing we didn’t like. Thank you for having usIlze from Latvia – 16 February 2025 (9/10)
Perfect! Very close to main street in centre. Easy to find. Host was super! Suggested really nice more local places fo have dinner!
What could be improved: If you want to go out to have dinner in nice not touristy place, you have to make reservations, other wise it's in God's hands 😁Alenka from Slovenia – 31 October 2024 (9/10)

They went to a lot of trouble to make us feel at home here, the place was very clean and the amenities excellent. He told us the places to eat which were excellent and good value, he was always available to answer questions so a big thank you for that. There is a fridge, microwave, kettle and coffee maker plus tea, coffee and milk etc – marvellous! The kitchen/communal area is shared by three other appartments but we had the place to ourselves for the first day which was great, we had the double room with the adjoining bathroom. The location is perfect!
What could be improved: I can imagine that it would get very very noisy with the other rooms occupied, a couple used the room next to ours on the second night and you could hear them very clearly through the walls (this was after they woke us up with the late arrival 🙁 ). Breakfast is provided but not in the appartment, you have to walk 10 mins to a local cafe for it. Parking is also referenced but the parking is in the city some 15 mins walk away and costs 21 Euro's a day. there isnt room to park outside without blocking the road so best to use the main carpark unless its rainingEric from United States – 21 September 2024 (9/10)
The B&B was clean, all the necessary amenities, very spacious, in a great location.

Location was great!! Bed was very comfortable, room spacious
What could be improved: The double rooms proximity to the triple room was a bit noisy in the night with the neighbours banging both their door and the bathroom several times. Not much you can do about that though.Meltem from Turkey – 2 December 2023 (9/10)
Everything was perfect. Location is perfect. In the heart of the city.

I am giving a maximum rate even of our experience wasn't perfect – a pipe broke on a bathroom near our room and we didn't have water in our bathroom. But the place is gorgeous, the location perfect and the staff very kind.
What could be improved: I think the management had to send a plumber immediately and not next morningBernadette from Ireland – 4 August 2023 (9/10)
