You know what hit me first when I walked into Italianflat – Palazzo Rizzardi? The way the afternoon light streams through those tall windows and bounces off the original marble floors. I mean, this isn’t your typical hotel setup – it’s actually more like staying in a beautifully restored apartment within a historic palazzo, which honestly makes the whole experience feel way more authentic than those cookie-cutter chain places.

The building itself has this incredible old-world character that you just can’t fake. We’re talking thick stone walls, high ceilings with original moldings, and these gorgeous architectural details that remind you you’re sleeping somewhere with actual history. The 4-star rating feels about right – it’s got all the modern touches you need (the Wi-Fi actually works, thank god, and the shower has proper pressure), but they’ve been smart about preserving the palazzo’s original charm. The furnishings strike this nice balance between contemporary comfort and respecting the space’s heritage. I particularly loved how they incorporated modern lighting that doesn’t compete with the period features.

What really sets this place apart though is how it makes you feel like a temporary resident of Verona rather than just another tourist passing through. The apartment-style layout means you’ve got proper space to spread out – there’s usually a living area where you can actually relax with a bottle of local wine, and often a kitchenette if you want to grab some fresh ingredients from the morning markets. The 7.9 rating from other guests makes sense to me; it’s not perfect (the palazzo’s age means you might hear your neighbors occasionally, and some of the quirks of an old building can catch you off guard), but the character and authenticity more than make up for any minor inconveniences. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience too – they’re the type who’ll give you directions to that little osteria around the corner that only locals know about, or tell you the best time to visit the nearby attractions when the crowds thin out. It’s one of those places where you end up staying longer than planned because it just feels right, you know?
