la vigna del Vescovo Overview
First Impressions
Tucked away on a narrow cobblestone street just steps from Verona’s ancient Roman walls, la vigna del Vescovo feels like stumbling upon a well-kept secret. The name translates to “the Bishop’s vineyard,” and honestly, that gives you a pretty good sense of what you’re walking into — something with history, character, and a touch of old-world charm. This four-star boutique property sits in one of Verona‘s quieter corners, where you can actually hear yourself think between the tourist crowds.
The Neighborhood
What I love about this location is how it strikes that perfect balance — you’re close enough to walk to Juliet’s balcony and the Arena in about ten minutes, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the constant stream of tour groups. The Vicolo Porta Vescovo area has this authentic residential feel where locals still hang laundry from their windows and chat with neighbors in the street. You know what’s really nice? There’s actual parking here, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Verona’s historic center with a car will tell you is basically a miracle.
The Room Experience
The rooms here have this understated elegance that feels genuinely Italian rather than trying too hard to impress. I mean, you’re not getting flashy modern design, but the attention to detail is what gets you — quality linens, thoughtful lighting, and windows that actually open to let in that sweet Veneto air. Each room feels different, with some featuring exposed beams or original architectural details that remind you this building has stories to tell. The bathrooms are compact but well-designed, and honestly, after a day of walking Verona’s marble streets, you’ll appreciate having a proper shower.
What Makes It Special
The staff here operates more like hosts than hotel employees — they genuinely seem to care about your experience and know the city well enough to point you toward that little osteria locals actually frequent (not just the touristy spots). The breakfast setup is simple but done right, with good coffee and fresh pastries that don’t feel mass-produced. What really sets this place apart, though, is how it manages to feel intimate without being cramped. The common areas have this lived-in quality where you might find yourself chatting with other guests or just enjoying a quiet moment with a book.
Why Guests Love It
Couples especially seem drawn to this place, and I get why — there’s something romantic about the setting without it being overly precious about it. The combination of the peaceful location, genuine hospitality, and that rare find of free parking in historic Verona creates a pretty compelling package. You’re getting authentic Italian hospitality in a setting that feels more like staying at a well-connected friend’s place than a standard hotel. Plus, with an 8.8 rating from guests, it’s clear that people leave here feeling like they discovered something special rather than just checking another accommodation off their list.

What could be improved: Directions for parking were a bit vague.

Great apartment with everything you need for a good stay and perfectly fine for a family of 4. Balcony was beautiful and Gianluca was excellent with all communication. 15-20 minute walk direct into the city.
What could be improved: The area was a little interesting and felt a little daunting in the evenings but Gianluca was great to reassure us it was safe for tourists.Rensp from Netherlands – 26 July 2024 (9/10)
– Behulpzame host: stond altijd voor je klaar en reageerde snel. Fijn contact.
– Grootte appartement en voorzieningen (koffiezetapparaat, wasmachine, goede wifi etc.)
– Ruimte in appartement
What could be improved: De wijk is overdag prima om richting Verona te lopen. In de avond (later) zou ik of m'n vrouw er niet alleen rondlopen. Redelijk wat hangende mensen en zwervers. Creatieve maar ook armer deel van Verona.Vit from Czech Republic – 1 July 2024 (9/10)
The apartment is in walking distance to the city centre. It's an old building, so you get the proper feeling of living in Verona. Yet the apartment itself is up to date. Do enjoy the balcony.
What could be improved: While the photos don't lie, they make the place look bigger than it really is. That said, it's still perfectly fine.Betti from Italy – 14 June 2024 (9/10)
The balcony is amazing, the building is historical with original features. The host was very supportive in every phase of our staying. It is very close to the University
What could be improved: No elevator.Peter from Germany – 1 June 2024 (8/10)
