Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Le Suite Di Giulietta almost by accident last summer when I was wandering through Verona’s old town, trying to escape the midday crowds around Juliet’s balcony – which, honestly, can get a bit overwhelming with all the love locks and selfie sticks. Tucked away on Vicolo Crocioni, this narrow little alley just off Via Cappello, it’s one of those spots that feels like a secret even though it’s right in the heart of the historical center. I mean, you’re steps from Piazza delle Erbe with its buzzing market stalls selling fresh cherries and prosciutto in the mornings, but the vicolo itself is so quiet at night you can hear the church bells from Santa Anastasia echoing softly. The building’s got that classic Veronese charm – think weathered stone walls and wooden shutters that creak just a tad when the breeze picks up. When I checked in, the owner – this warm, chatty guy named Marco – handed me the keys with a grin and a quick tip about the best gelato spot on Via Mazzini (it’s Gelateria Ponte Pietra, by the way, and their pistachio is to die for). No fuss, no long lines like at some of the bigger hotels near the Arena; it was quick and personal, which is a relief after hauling luggage over those uneven cobblestones.

What really won me over, though, was how the place blends that old-world romance with just enough modern comfort to make you feel pampered without it being over-the-top. My suite – well, it was more like a cozy apartment, actually – had these high ceilings with exposed beams that smelled faintly of aged wood, and a balcony overlooking the vicolo where I sipped espresso in the mornings, watching locals bike past with baskets of bread. The bed was ridiculously comfortable, with those crisp white linens that make you want to sleep in, and the bathroom had a rain shower that was a godsend after a day exploring the Arena or hiking up to Castel San Pietro for sunset views. It’s rated 8.8 for a reason, you know? But fair warning, parking’s a nightmare in this part of town – I ended up leaving my car at the public lot near Porta Nuova and walking the 15 minutes, which isn’t bad unless you’ve got heavy bags. And during peak season in July, when Verona’s opera festival is on, the streets nearby can get noisy with performers practicing arias until late, but inside the suite, it’s surprisingly peaceful, like a little bubble. Oh, and breakfast – they bring it to your room if you ask, nothing fancy, just fresh croissants, yogurt, and that strong Italian coffee that hits the spot.

All in all, if you’re looking to really sink into Verona’s vibe – the kind where you can pop out for a spritz at a hidden osteria on Via Sottoriva or catch a quiet moment by the Adige River – this is your spot. It’s not the flashiest 4-star out there, and yeah, the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the thicker-walled rooms (old buildings, what can you do?), but that’s part of the authenticity. I’d go back in a heartbeat for a romantic weekend; it’s got that effortless magic that makes you feel like you’re living the story, not just visiting.
