Novo Hotel Rossi Overview
I remember pulling up to the Novo Hotel Rossi on Via delle Coste – it’s this quiet little side street tucked away in Verona’s Borgo Trento neighborhood, you know, just a stone’s throw from the Adige River. Honestly, if you’re arriving by train like I did, it’s a godsend; we’re talking less than a 10-minute walk from Verona Porta Nuova station, but without all the chaos of those big boulevards like Corso Porta Nuova. I mean, I dragged my suitcase over from the platform, dodging a few Vespas, and suddenly there it was – this unassuming three-star spot that looks more like a cozy apartment building than some flashy hotel. Check-in was a breeze; the front desk guy, Marco (I think that was his name), chatted me up about the best gelato spots nearby while handing over the key – no long lines or stuffy formalities, just that warm Italian welcome. And parking? They have a small lot out back, which is a lifesaver in Verona where street spots vanish faster than espresso shots during morning rush. Oh, and if you’re here in summer, watch out for the afternoon heat – the street gets that baked-stone smell, but the hotel’s air-conditioned lobby hits you like a cool breeze.
What really won me over, though, was how the place feels lived-in and thoughtful, without trying too hard. My room on the second floor overlooked a tiny courtyard with these old olive trees – nothing grand, but waking up to birds chirping instead of traffic noise was a nice surprise, especially since Via delle Coste can get a bit buzzy during evening strolls toward the river. The bed was comfy, sort of firm in that European way, with crisp white sheets that smelled faintly of lavender (they must use some local detergent). Breakfast downstairs is included and actually pretty solid – fresh croissants, cappuccinos made to order, and those little jars of Nutella that make you feel like a kid again. I mean, it’s not a feast, but paired with the view of locals cycling by, it sets you up right for a day wandering to the Arena or Ponte Pietra, which are about a 20-minute walk across the bridge. Staff-wise, they’re gems; one evening I asked about a quiet dinner spot, and they pointed me to this hole-in-the-wall trattoria on Via Sottoriva – authentic risotto, no tourists in sight. That said, the rooms are on the compact side – fine for solo travelers or couples, but if you’re packing heavy, well, you might play luggage Tetris. And the Wi-Fi? Solid for emails, but it lagged a bit during peak hours, like when everyone’s streaming after dinner.
Look, if you’re not chasing five-star glamour and just want a genuine base in Verona – especially during the opera season when the center turns into a madhouse – Novo Hotel Rossi is a smart pick. It’s got that high rating for a reason: clean, friendly, and positioned perfectly for exploring without the hassle. I stayed three nights last fall, and honestly, I’d go back in a heartbeat – maybe even splurge on a balcony room next time. It’s the kind of place that reminds you why traveling in Italy is about the simple joys, you know?

During our 10-day trip across Italy, we stayed here for two nights, and I have to say—it was the best stay of our entire trip! The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. We booked a room for three people with separate beds, and it was fantastic. The space was generous, allowing us to store our large luggage while still having plenty of room to move around comfortably. We loved the modern design of the rooms at this hotel, and the breakfast was quite enjoyable as well.
