Palazzo di Giulietta – Juliet’s Palace Verona Overview
You know what hits you first when you walk into Palazzo di Giulietta – Juliet’s Palace Verona? It’s not just the name-dropping Shakespeare connection – though honestly, that’s pretty charming – it’s this genuine old-world elegance that feels earned, not forced. I mean, we’re talking about a 3-star place here, so you’re not getting marble everything and turndown chocolates, but there’s something really authentic about how they’ve maintained the palazzo character without going overboard on the Romeo and Juliet theme.
The location is what really sold me on this place. You’re properly in Verona, not stuck out in some business district pretending to be central. Walking to the actual Casa di Giulietta takes maybe ten minutes – and yes, it’s touristy as hell, but you’ll probably end up there anyway, so might as well embrace it. What I loved though was how easy it was to slip away from the tourist crowds. There are these little side streets nearby where locals actually go for aperitivo, and the staff here actually knows which ones are worth your time versus the obvious traps. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Italy, after all – but they’ve got character. Mine had these wonderfully creaky wooden floors and windows that opened properly (none of that sealed hotel nonsense), so you could hear the city waking up in the morning. Fair warning though: if you’re a super light sleeper, bring earplugs. Verona’s got personality, and that includes some late-night street life.
Honestly, the 8.1 rating feels about right. It’s not trying to be something it isn’t – no spa, no fancy restaurant, no concierge in a fancy uniform. But what it does well is give you a real sense of place. The breakfast is simple but decent (proper espresso, thank god), and the woman who runs the front desk in the mornings knows absolutely everything about what’s happening in the city. She steered me toward this incredible little osteria that I never would have found otherwise. Check-in was smooth, though they do that very Italian thing where everything slows down between 2 and 4 PM – just plan accordingly. The whole place feels like someone’s elegant aunt decided to rent out rooms in her palazzo, which might actually be exactly what’s happening here. For what you pay, especially if you catch it during the quieter months, it’s honestly a pretty sweet deal if you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual history rather than just another chain hotel.

Perfect location, just a few short steps to a lovely street – but well insulated, we never heard a thing! Beautiful, very old building with original features! Stunning place to stay – will stay there again! The Italians have a wonderful way of blending the ancient with their modern esthetic so perfectly! It really showcased the spirit of the place.
What could be improved: The bed was two twin bed mattresses put together that slid apart very easily. Verona is the city of love! How can you have the full experience when the bed is sliding your partner away from you! The translucent bathroom area was a bit disconcerting to see the shape of your partner on the potty.Theresa from New Zealand – 22 September 2024 (9/10)
