Palazzo Fracastoro Overview
You know what really caught me off guard about Palazzo Fracastoro? The moment you step through those heavy wooden doors, there’s this immediate sense that you’ve stumbled into someone’s elegant family home rather than a typical three-star hotel. I mean, the name alone hints at the history here – this place has that authentic Italian palazzo feel that so many hotels try to fake but rarely pull off convincingly.
What I love most about staying here is how it strikes this perfect balance between old-world charm and actually functional amenities. The rooms have these gorgeous high ceilings and original architectural details that make you want to just sit there and admire the craftsmanship, but honestly, everything works properly – the WiFi is solid, the bathrooms are updated without being sterile, and the beds are genuinely comfortable (not always a given in historic properties, trust me). The staff runs the place with that effortless Italian hospitality where they somehow anticipate what you need without being intrusive about it. During my stay, they helped me sort out dinner reservations at this tiny local place I never would have found on my own, and when I mentioned I was interested in the area’s history, one of them actually sat down with me over coffee and shared stories about the building that you definitely won’t find in any guidebook.
The location is one of those spots where you feel connected to the real rhythm of the city without being stuck in the middle of tourist chaos. You can walk to the main sights easily enough, but you’re also in a neighborhood where locals actually live and work – there’s a little market nearby where I grabbed the best prosciutto sandwich of my life, and the evening passeggiata happens right outside, which is basically free entertainment. The 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there; it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but what it does, it does really well. The whole experience feels genuine in a way that’s become pretty rare – like they care more about making sure you have a good stay than checking boxes on some corporate hospitality manual. If you’re the type of traveler who appreciates character over cookie-cutter perfection, and you want to feel like you’re actually experiencing the place you’re visiting rather than just sleeping somewhere generic, Palazzo Fracastoro delivers exactly that.

Lovely property with great instructions given to check in and out, great kitchen, great bedroom, the balcony was a bonus too. Location was perfect for the centre with only a couple of minutes walk to bars and restaurants. The house was very clean and provided most things esp for the kitchen. It was also very private.

Just back from a delightful stay at Palazzo Fracastoro, a lovely place. We had the ground floor self contained apartment (upstairs are en-suite bedrooms with communal lounge and kitchen). It’s a lovely apartment, clean and cool and well equipped. Great location on the edge of the old town, five minutes from the arena. Great host, easy communication. Highly recommend.

This is a magnificent stay. The location is wonderful a short walk from the Arena and that magnificent square with all the resteraunt. The accommodation itself is a wonderful insight into life here and a mix of history. There is a wo derfully modern kitchenette and bathrooms but in an antique setting, soon locks are at least 140 years old and there is beautiful old furniture. There is so much h space especially after little hotel rooms. You could stay here for the library alone. The little balcony is a wonderful start to the day with a cup of tea. They provide about 10 varieties and an expresso machine. There is nothing not to like here and the host is just marvellous and friendly.
What could be improved: Slightly better instructions in accessing the facility but this is minor and we did arrive early so the hist was not there but came within 5 minutes.Estelle from United Kingdom – 27 May 2024 (9/10)
Great location, only a short walk to the Amphitheatre. Our room was clean and comfortable and quiet. The kitchen facilities were really well equipped and the coffee machine was a godsend. The shared living area was quiet and relaxed with plenty of reading material and ideal for when we had thunderstorms.
The keys are a little tricky so be patient, but security is really good all round.
Olimpia was really helpful and recommended some great restaurants and a really good wine tasting afternoon in Valpolicella. Good communication with her and really friendly.

Olimpia was an excellent host and was able to help me with any requests I had. She conveniently sent me restaurant links with descriptions and Google Map links via WhatsApp (so convenient). The location is excellent and within the Old City Walls.
