Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Palazzo Reggiani – Galileo Galilei almost by accident last spring, when I was wandering the cobblestone alleys of Verona’s centro storico after a long train ride from Milan. It’s tucked away on Via Filippini, this unassuming little street that’s just a stone’s throw from the bustle of Piazza delle Erbe – you know, where the market vendors hawk fresh cherries and those aromatic cheeses in the mornings. Honestly, the place looks like something out of a Renaissance painting from the outside, all weathered stone and arched windows, but without that overly touristy vibe you get closer to the Arena. I mean, it’s a restored palazzo, right? So when I pushed open the heavy wooden door, I was hit with this cool, echoing foyer that smelled faintly of polished marble and fresh espresso – the kind that lingers from the owner’s morning brew. Check-in was a breeze; the host, this chatty local named Marco, handed over the keys with a quick rundown of the best nearby osterias (try the one on Via Sottoriva for risotto, he said, and he wasn’t wrong). No big lobby fuss, just a warm welcome that made me feel like I’d crashed at a friend’s place – well, a very fancy friend’s place.
What really hooked me was how they’ve blended the old-world charm with just enough modern perks to make it practical for travelers like me who aren’t into roughing it. My room – one of the suites overlooking the courtyard – had these exposed beam ceilings and terracotta floors that creaked a bit underfoot, adding to that authentic Verona feel, but the bed was plush, with linens that felt like they were ironed by angels. You get a little kitchenette too, which came in handy for whipping up a late-night snack from the market (pro tip: stock up on Amarone wine from the enoteca around the corner on Via Mazzini). It’s quiet here, especially in the evenings when the historical center winds down – no blaring horns like you’d hear near the Ponte Pietra bridge during rush hour. That said, parking’s a nightmare if you’re driving; I left my rental at the public lot by the river and walked the five minutes over, which was fine but a hassle with luggage in the rain. And while the Wi-Fi is speedy (great for streaming those Italian operas), the bathroom’s on the smaller side – sort of cozy, I guess, but pack light if you’re sharing. Oh, and if you’re visiting in July for the opera festival, book early; the place fills up fast with folks escaping the Arena crowds for some peace.
All in all, if you’re chasing that romantic Verona escape – think Juliet’s balcony without the selfie sticks – this spot’s a gem. It’s not perfect (stairs can be a trek if you’ve got bad knees, no elevator in sight), but with a 9.8 rating, it’s clear others feel the same pull. I left feeling like I’d uncovered a secret slice of the city, sipping coffee on the balcony as church bells rang from Santa Anastasia nearby. Honestly, skip the big chains and stay here; you’ll thank me when you’re wandering back from a gelato run on Via Cappello, keys to your own little palazzo in hand.

This apartment is like a work of art blending the original features of the historic property with a very modern design. It looks just like the pictures online. The host opened the door and showed us around the property as soon as we arrived. He was flexible with our giving him our arrival time on the morning of the day we arrived. He had added some very nice snacks and drinks in the apartment for us. We walked to the Verona arena for the opera and it was an easy, short walk. Truly a beautiful place and stay.

Property is gorgeous and well maintained. Giovanni is extremely nice and accommodating, great vibe.
The garden is beautiful, rooms are comfortable, kitchen is well equipped and they offered some amenities like water, coffee, a bottle of Prosecco, some snacks. Location is great, 5 min from everything but still in a quiet place. I’d stay there again.
What could be improved: I cannot complain about anything, but if I could suggest, would be nice to have some services on demand if desired. It’s a beautiful and expensive staying, so people who pay that price probably expect little luxuries as prosciutto, nuts, a carpaccio, formaggio, a pay per use service, etcKm71 from Sweden – 28 June 2024 (10/10)
