You know what caught me off guard about PAO Apartment – Veronetta 2? It’s tucked away in this absolutely charming neighborhood that most tourists completely miss. I mean, everyone gets obsessed with the main tourist drag near the Arena, but honestly – they’re missing out on the real character of Verona. Veronetta sits across the Adige River, and it’s where you’ll actually hear Italian conversations at the local bars instead of just camera clicks.

The apartment itself is pretty solid for what you’re paying – it’s got that lived-in European feel without being shabby. Four stars seems about right, though I’d say it leans more toward the authentic side than the polished hotel experience some people expect. The space actually feels like someone’s home (which, let’s be honest, it probably was), with real kitchen equipment you can actually use and windows that open properly. I loved that I could grab fresh produce from the market and make breakfast without fighting with one of those terrible mini-fridges. The neighborhood has this morning rhythm where you’ll hear the elderly residents chatting from their balconies – it’s sort of like having a gentle Italian alarm clock.

What really sold me on this place was walking to dinner. You’re maybe fifteen minutes on foot to the historic center, but the walk takes you over the Ponte Pietra, which honestly might be my favorite view in the whole city. At sunset, you get the river reflecting the old buildings, and there’s usually a street musician or two – it’s the kind of moment that makes you feel like you’re in a movie. The Veronetta side has these narrow streets with local trattorias where the menus aren’t translated into five languages, which is always a good sign. I stumbled into this little place called Osteria del Bugiardo one night, and the owner ended up teaching me how to properly eat risotto all’Amarone (apparently I was doing it wrong).

Look, the 7.0 rating is probably fair – it’s not going to blow you away with luxury touches, and the WiFi can be a bit temperamental. But if you’re the type of traveler who’d rather feel like a temporary local than a tourist, this spot delivers. The bed was comfortable enough, the shower had decent pressure, and I never felt like I was staying in some sterile hotel box. Plus, parking in this area is actually manageable, which anyone who’s tried to drive in Italian historic centers will appreciate. I’d definitely come back, especially since I still haven’t tried all the wine bars the neighbor recommended.

  Buona posizione, l'appartamento è ben arredato, pulito, comodo e offre i comfort necessari. Il bagno è pratico e la doccia è comoda. Gradita la presenza di una bottiglia di acqua fresca nel frigo e la possibilità di farsi un caffè con capsule messe a disposizione dall'host che si è dimostrato gentile e disponibile.
