Parking was a lifesaver here; they have a small lot out back, which is gold in a city where circling for spots can eat up your afternoon. Check-in was straightforward – the owner, this friendly guy named Marco (I think), handed over the keys with a quick chat about the best gelato spot nearby, Gelateria Ponte Pietra, which is honestly worth the detour. The building itself is this restored old palazzo, all exposed brick and wooden beams that sort of whisper history without feeling stuffy.

What really won me over were the rooms – they’re more like mini-apartments, which is brilliant if you’re staying more than a couple nights. Mine had a little kitchenette with a stove that actually worked (none of that half-baked hotel nonsense), and I whipped up pasta from the market on Piazza San Zeno one evening, the smells of garlic and tomato filling the space while church bells rang softly in the background. The beds are comfy, firm in that European way, though the bathroom was a tad compact – well, it’s an old building, so expect some quirky plumbing, like the shower that takes a second to warm up. But the views! From my window, I could see snippets of the basilica’s towers, and mornings started with the sound of birds and distant scooter hums, not the chaos of tour groups. It’s rated 8.6 for a reason; everything feels authentic, from the creaky wooden floors to the fresh linens that smell faintly of lavender. Oh, and if you’re here in summer, book ahead – the place fills up with folks coming for the opera season at the Arena, which is just a 15-minute walk across the Ponte Scaligero. Noise-wise, it’s pretty peaceful after dark, though you might hear faint echoes from the neighborhood festas in July.

All in all, if you’re after a spot that lets you live like a local rather than just visit, this is it. It’s not some glossy chain – it’s got character, minor quirks and all, like the occasional draft from the old windows during shoulder season in October. But that’s what makes it special, you know? I’d go back in a heartbeat for that blend of history and hominess, especially if you’re traveling with a partner or small family who wants space to unwind after exploring Verona’s cobbled streets.   Our room was incredible, felt very historical with the furniture and room decor. Room had all you needed and very very spacious. We had 2 floors, with a table for eating, a couch and large TV, 3 beds, cooking facilities.

  The location was perfect, withing 8 minutes you were in the centre, but also located in a quite area which is what you needed after a long day in verona.

  Loved this hotel. We had a very spacious room, more like an apartment, comfortable bed and pillows. Spacious bathroom , plenty of towels.
  San Zeno is a lovely quaint neighbourhood, lots of bars and restaurants and the Basilica which is stunning. A nice walk down by the river to Castevecchio and then to the Arena a 20 min walk. We also loved the antique style of the hotel. Breakfast room was absolutely stunning, great selection of food, hot and cold, very pleasant and helpful staff in the breakfast room.
  
  What could be improved: Room could have done with a large mirror.

  1) Easily accommodated our party of 4 plus our friends' party of 3 in 2 apartments.
  2) Air-conditioning was perfect (even too cold).
  3) Good shower.
  4) Comfortable beds.
  5) Very nice residence with lots of antiques (furniture, paintings, sculptures).

  What could be improved: 1) We were on the top floor but property doesn't have lift, so 5 suitcases had to be carried up & down by hand plus walking up & down for any elderly person wouldn't be optimal, so you needs to request the bottom floors apt.
  2) Property has a kitchen but hardly any glassware (in our case, we had to drink our prosecco from tea cups).
  3) Toilet door wasn't locking
  4) main room where 2 beds were setup didn't have any blinds, so it was very bright in the morning
  5) Located 15-20 min walk from the arena
  6) Slightly expensive for 1 night (230 euro per apartment).
