Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Residenza Borsari almost by accident during my last trip to Verona – well, not really by accident, since I’d booked it ahead, but you know what I mean, that feeling when you turn onto Corso Porta Borsari and suddenly the ancient Roman gate looms up ahead, all weathered stone and history staring back at you. It’s right there at number 33, tucked into this bustling pedestrian street that’s basically the heartbeat of the old town. Honestly, if you’re into that mix of chaos and charm, this spot nails it – I mean, you’re steps away from Piazza delle Erbe with its market stalls spilling over with fresh figs and prosciutto in the mornings, and just a quick wander to the Arena for those summer opera nights. But fair warning, parking’s a nightmare around here; we ended up ditching the car at a garage near Ponte Pietra (about a 10-minute walk) because the historical center’s all narrow alleys and no-go zones for vehicles. Check-in was a breeze, though – the staff, these friendly locals who chatted about the best gelato spots (try the one on Via Mazzini, seriously), had us sorted in no time, even with our late arrival after a delayed train from Milan.
What really got me about Residenza Borsari is how it feels like a hidden gem in the middle of all that tourist buzz – it’s a small boutique place, you see, with just a handful of rooms that somehow blend old Verona vibes with modern comforts. Our suite had these exposed brick walls and wooden beams that made it feel like stepping into a Renaissance painting, but with plush bedding that actually let you sleep through the faint hum of evening crowds outside (earplugs helped on weekends, though, when the bars on nearby Via Stella get lively). Breakfast was a highlight – served in this cozy courtyard that smells of blooming jasmine in spring, with fresh croissants, local cheeses, and coffee that’s strong enough to wake the dead. I appreciated the little touches, like the minibar stocked with regional wines (hello, Valpolicella) and the bathroom’s rain shower that felt luxurious after a day trekking to Juliet’s House – which, by the way, is overhyped but still worth the five-minute stroll for the people-watching. It’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the thicker-walled rooms, and if you’re not a fan of stairs, note there’s no elevator – but hey, it adds to the authentic feel, right? We visited in early fall, when the crowds thin out after Ferragosto, and it was blissfully quiet by 10 PM.
All in all, if you’re planning a Verona getaway and want somewhere that puts you smack in the action without feeling like a generic chain, Residenza Borsari is where it’s at. It’s got that 4-star polish with a real soul – think personal recommendations from the front desk that led us to hidden trattorias off Corso Cavour, serving the best bigoli pasta you’ve ever tasted. Sure, it’s a bit pricier than spots outside the center, but waking up to the sound of church bells from San Zeno (a short bike ride away) and stepping out to explore without needing a map? Worth every euro. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for a romantic weekend – just pack comfortable shoes for those cobblestones.

Gorgeous bedroom and bathroom, with plants everywhere. Loved the way the bathroom mirror doubled as a to screen!
The proprietor was so kind and flexible, coming specially to enable us to leave our luggage early, and letting us leave it at the property all day on the day we left. She went out of her way to help us!Rebekah from United Kingdom – 23 February 2025 (9/10)

Ideally located, beautiful, spacious and comfortable room. Fantastic breakfast and friendly staff. If arriving by car, you can drive into the pedestrian zone to unload your vehicle. They will turn your license tag into the police to avoid tickets. Once unloaded, park at Arsenale Parking and take a short walk (about 5 minutes) back to the hotel.
