Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to San Leonardo Suites on a balmy evening last summer – you know, that time of year when Verona’s streets buzz with tourists flocking to the Arena for opera season, but this spot in Borgo Trento feels like a quiet escape from all that. It’s tucked away on Via San Leonardo, just a stone’s throw from the Adige River – actually, if you wander down to Lungadige San Giorgio, you can catch those stunning sunset views over the water that locals rave about but don’t always share with outsiders. I drove in from the A4 highway, and honestly, finding parking was a breeze; they’ve got a secure garage right on site, which is a godsend in a city where street spots vanish faster than gelato in July. Check-in was smooth – the staff, all Veronese through and through, chatted with me about the best nearby trattoria for cacio e pepe (try Osteria del Bugiardo on Via Mazzini if you’re into that), and before I knew it, I was up in my suite, kicking off my shoes on those cool marble floors that feel like a relief after a day of cobblestone walking.
What really won me over, though, was how the place blends that old-world Italian charm with just enough modern perks to make you feel pampered without it being over-the-top. My room – well, suite, actually – overlooked a little courtyard garden with olive trees rustling in the breeze, and the smell of fresh espresso from the in-room machine hit me first thing in the morning, pulling me out of bed better than any alarm. It’s not massive, but the space is smartly laid out: a comfy king bed with those crisp linens that crinkle just right, a sitting area with a sofa that begged for lazy afternoons reading, and a bathroom stocked with those herbal toiletries that smell faintly of rosemary – reminds me of the hills around Lake Garda, which is only a short drive away if you’re up for a day trip. Noise-wise, it’s pretty serene here; Borgo Trento is residential, so you might hear the occasional scooter zipping by on Via Emilio Salgari nearby, but nothing like the clamor downtown near Piazza Bra. Oh, and breakfast – they do a spread in the lobby with fresh pastries, local cheeses, and prosciutto that’s sliced right there; I mean, it’s not gourmet-fancy, but it’s hearty and sets you up for exploring. One minor gripe? The Wi-Fi can be spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, but hey, that’s Italy for you – forces you to unplug and actually enjoy the city.
All in all, if you’re heading to Verona and want somewhere that feels authentic without skimping on comfort, San Leonardo Suites is a solid pick – especially off-season in spring when the cherry blossoms along the river paths are blooming and the crowds thin out. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the historic center, crossing Ponte Pietra with its ancient Roman vibes, or you can hop on a bus from nearby stops if your feet need a break. I’ve stayed in flashier spots, but this one sticks with me for the little things: that genuine warmth from the staff, the way the light filters through the shutters at dawn, and how it positions you perfectly for both the tourist must-sees and those hidden gems like the Giardino Giusti gardens just across the way. Honestly, you’d be hard-pressed to find better value in a 4-star setup here – go for it, and thank me later over a spritz at a local enoteca.

I actually stayed from 29th Sept and extended to 7th October, first with my sister then later with my husband. The staff were exceptional and the suites were perfect. They went above and beyond and did a very nice presentation for my sisters "Pre birthday" surprise..They actually wrote by hand "Pre" on the balloons..I really appreciated the attention to detail. Their location is in a quiet but easy to get to with just a 10 min walk to centre and you get to walk over the river in the evening when going back and experience the beauty of the lights of Verona..Would definitely recommend ..
