San Mammaso – Verona Center Overview
You know what? I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to San Mammaso – Verona Center, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But sometimes those assumptions get you in trouble, and this turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises that makes you feel like you actually know how to travel.
The location is what really got me. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Verona here – not some “city center” that’s actually twenty minutes from anything interesting. You can walk to Juliet’s balcony in about five minutes (yeah, it’s touristy, but come on, you’re going to go anyway), and the Piazza delle Erbe is close enough that you’ll hear the morning market vendors setting up if you’re an early riser. What I loved was stumbling back from dinner around Via Mazzini – which honestly has some of the best little wine bars tucked into these medieval side streets – and being able to just roll into bed without dealing with taxis or figuring out bus routes. The building itself has this weathered stone facade that looks like it’s been there forever, which it probably has. Inside, it’s got that slightly worn European charm where everything works fine but nothing matches perfectly – you know, wooden floors that creak a bit, shutters that you have to fidget with to close properly, but somehow it all feels authentic rather than run-down.
Actually, the 7.3 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed there. It’s not trying to be fancy – the breakfast is decent coffee and pastries, not some elaborate buffet situation – but the staff genuinely seems to care about helping you figure out the city. The woman at the front desk (I think her name was Giulia?) drew me this hand-sketched map to avoid the tourist crowds around the Arena during opera season, which saved me probably an hour of elbow-to-elbow shuffling. The rooms are clean and comfortable enough, with these thick walls that keep things surprisingly quiet considering you’re right in the middle of everything. I mean, you’ll still hear some street noise – it’s Italy, people talk with their hands AND their voices – but nothing that kept me up at night. What struck me most was how it felt like staying in someone’s well-maintained apartment rather than a hotel that’s trying too hard to impress you. The shower had actual water pressure, the Wi-Fi worked without needing three different passwords, and there was enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. For what you’re paying, especially in a city where location costs serious money, it’s honestly a solid choice if you want to be where the action is without breaking the bank or dealing with some soulless chain hotel.

Reviews of San Mammaso – Verona Center
Jolita from United Kingdom – 4 November 2024 (9/10)
Walkable distance from centre. We stay for a night only so it served as perfectly!
What could be improved: Hob wasn’t working, couldn’t make tea for a kids.
Drop off bags earlier would be helpful too. No kettle or iron in apartment!Tiasha from United Kingdom – 3 November 2024 (6/10)
What could be improved: The stove did not work and the host was unable to help. They should have checked all equipments were working before letting the property.
Marion from Canada – 1 September 2024 (5/10)
Great location
What could be improved: Not for 4 people, with glass shower in one of the bedroom. Other bedroom is upstairs and incredibly hot. We were not able to use the stove and there is a dangerous step in the entrance.Julian from Germany – 15 August 2024 (7/10)
The location is great. In the center of Verona. Walking distance to everything.
What could be improved: The main bedroom with shower room is very nice with separate air conditioning. The second bed is above the kitchen and is very hot. Steep stairway. The air conditioner is running all night but can not cool the upper area. The lower area was like a fridge. It was 38°C outside during our stay.Ronda from South Africa – 9 August 2024 (9/10)
The location was amazing. We walked everywhere and it wsa very convenient. The apartment was comfortable and well equipped. Ther is also parking relatively close by.
What could be improved: We were four people, but there were only three chairs. There should be enough chairs for everyone to be able to sit.Ann from United Kingdom – 1 July 2024 (8/10)
Loved the location. Loved the properties use of space and the design. Perfect for exploring Verona.
What could be improved: Only having three dining chairs when there were four us and the duvet cover was hot and sweaty. Would prefer cotton bedding. However these are minor negatives and we loved it.Mia from Belgium – 28 June 2024 (8/10)

Great location, responsive host
Good aircon, washing machine was a plus, good shower, comfy beds, Smart TV was good.
What could be improved: With only dining chairs to sit on to watch TV it would’ve been better to have the tv in the bedroom.Brendan from United Kingdom – 9 April 2024 (8/10)
