Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Verona Movie Lovers kind of by accident last summer – I was in Verona for the opera festival at the Arena, and my original booking fell through. Tucked away on this quiet little stretch of Via Tito Speri, right in the heart of the historical centre, it’s one of those spots that feels like a hidden gem even though it’s smack in the middle of everything. I mean, you’re literally steps from the bustling Via Cappello, where Juliet’s House draws all those lovestruck tourists snapping selfies, but this street? It’s got that old-world charm with cobblestones that echo under your feet and these ancient stone facades that make you feel like you’ve time-traveled. The hotel itself is in a renovated building – think exposed brick walls and those tall, shuttered windows that let in the golden afternoon light. Checking in was a breeze; I arrived sweaty from hauling my bag across Ponte Pietra (pro tip: if you’re walking from the train station, it’s about 15 minutes, but wear comfy shoes because those hills sneak up on you). The staff, mostly locals who chat about the best gelato spots – like the one on Via Stella with the pistachio that’s to die for – handed me a keycard with a grin and pointed out the complimentary espresso machine in the lobby. Honestly, after a day dodging crowds at Piazza delle Erbe, sinking into that lobby armchair with a coffee was pure bliss.

What really sets this place apart, though – and yeah, the name gives it away – is the whole movie theme running through it. Each room’s got these subtle nods to classic films; mine was inspired by “Roman Holiday,” with black-and-white posters and a vintage projector lamp that actually works if you fancy a late-night flick. The beds are comfy, with those crisp white linens that smell faintly of lavender (they must use some local detergent), and the bathrooms? Spacious enough, with rain showers that wash away the day’s dust from wandering along the Adige River. It’s a solid 4-star setup, nothing overly fancy, but thoughtful touches like fresh fruit in the room and a breakfast spread downstairs – oh man, the cornetti are flaky and warm, paired with cappuccinos that rival any café on Corso Porta Borsari. That said, if you’re a light sleeper, note that the historical centre can get a bit noisy in the mornings with delivery scooters buzzing by – I had to close the windows tight, but the AC hummed quietly enough to drown it out. Parking’s a hassle here, as you’d expect in such a pedestrian-heavy area; they partner with a garage on Via Emilei, just a five-minute walk away, but book it ahead during peak season like July when the opera crowds descend. And the Wi-Fi? Spotty in the upper floors sometimes, but fine for streaming or checking emails.

All in all, if you’re hitting Verona for its romance or history – maybe catching a show at the Arena or strolling to the Castelvecchio bridge at sunset – this hotel’s a winner. It’s got that authentic vibe that makes you feel like you’re living in the city, not just visiting, and with an 8.8 rating, it’s clear others agree. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season in spring when the wisteria blooms everywhere and the streets are quieter. Just pack light and embrace the walkability – you’ll thank me later. Great location.

What could be improved: Photo of entrance doorway sent as a guide was a different colour.
    No batteries in tv remote.
Only 3 mismatched wine glasses and we were 5.
Sone longlife milk would have been appreciated

  • Donna from United Kingdom – 8 April 2024 (9/10)

  • Paul from United Kingdom – 6 April 2024 (9/10)

Superb location only a 5 minute walk into Verona centre, a lovely clean and very tidy apartment. The kitchen is excellent, the lounge area perfect, bathroom and en suite were really nicely set out. The check in and Vikey system they have worked very well – more should take up this idea! I seriuosly recommend this apartment!

What could be improved: My only small gripe is that that 1 of the 2 single beds wasn't really a bed, but more of a temorary pull out bed – and therefore wasn't very comfortable. Also, if you're a fan of multiple pillows we only had 1 per bed.
