I remember pulling up to Via Poma Rooms on a drizzly afternoon last spring – you know, that time of year when Verona’s streets are buzzing with early tourists but not yet overrun. The address is right there on Via Carlo Poma, just a stone’s throw from the Porta Nuova train station if you’re coming in by rail, though honestly, if you’re driving, good luck with parking; the historical center’s a nightmare for spots, and I ended up circling for 20 minutes before snagging something on a side street off Via Roma. It’s on the primo piano – that’s the first floor up, in Italian terms – so no ground-level entrance, but the buzzer system worked like a charm, and the owner greeted me with this warm, no-fuss vibe that made me feel like I was crashing at a friend’s place rather than checking into a hotel.

Stepping inside, it’s got that cozy, understated charm you don’t always find in Verona’s busier spots – think exposed brick walls (a bit uneven, but in a character-building way) and wooden floors that creak just enough to remind you you’re in an old building near the Adige River. My room was compact, sure – I mean, it’s a 3-star setup, so don’t expect sprawling suites – but the bed was ridiculously comfortable, with those crisp white linens that smell faintly of lavender detergent, and a little balcony overlooking the alley where I could hear distant church bells from San Zeno Maggiore chiming in the evenings. Breakfast was simple but spot-on: fresh cornetti from a bakery down on Via Mazzini (grab one if you’re wandering that way; they’re flaky and still warm if you time it right), strong espresso, and some local cheeses that paired perfectly with the apricot jam. Oh, and the Wi-Fi? Surprisingly zippy for a place like this – I streamed a movie one night without a hitch, even though the signal dips a tad in the bathroom. Noise-wise, it’s pretty quiet after dark, especially mid-week, but weekends can get lively with folks spilling out from the trattorias on nearby Corso Porta Borsari; earplugs helped if you’re a light sleeper.

What really sold me on Via Poma, though, was how it felt like a smart base for exploring without the tourist-trap prices – you’re basically a 10-minute stroll from Juliet’s House or the Arena, but tucked away enough that you avoid the constant selfie crowds on Piazza delle Erbe. It’s not perfect; the shower’s on the smaller side, and there’s no elevator, so pack light if stairs aren’t your thing. But for an 8.7 rating that actually holds up, it’s a gem – especially if you’re traveling solo or as a couple looking for that authentic Verona feel. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe in fall when the leaves turn and the air smells like roasting chestnuts from the street vendors. If you’re after a spot that blends into the city’s rhythm rather than shouting about it, this is it – trust me, you’ll thank yourself after a day of wandering those cobblestone paths.

  The room was really nice, air con was superb for the hot weather! Staff that greeted us was incredibly friendly and helpful, definitely would be back 🙂
  
  What could be improved: Just a small thing, I wish they provide a spoon with the coffee cups. Also, we saw a few ants in the room floor, which I guess it was the weather, not the property's fault! Nothing to complain, great stay!

  A great place to stay in Verona. It’s close to the old town, close to the main train station, so perfect location. The host is incredibly helpful and friendly. The place has everything you might need, including scissors (and yes, we actually needed them to remove a label. And yes, that’s something we used to need before but was not available in other places). I will book it again when I come back.

  When I was searching for accommodation most of the places in the city centre didn't look so appealing. So I decided to compromise for a place that was outside and more modern with lots of light. The room is a good size and the building is well kept with super cute garden. The city wall is only a 15 minute walk away and the area is quiet and feels safe to walk around.

  The apartment is in a very beautiful and modern house. The location is super central, just a few minutes walking distance to the city center. You can easily park in front of the house with 12€/day costs. The room itself is very modern, has a Nespresso machine, fridge, and a modern bathroom.
  
  What could be improved: The bed had two separate mattresses that always slided apart and also the bed sheets were a bit too thin for end of March.
