Hotel Leon d’Oro Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Leon d’Oro on Viale Piave, you immediately get that feeling of discovering something special without the tourist crowds breathing down your neck. This four-star property sits in what I’d call the sweet spot of Verona — close enough to everything that matters, but tucked away on a quieter street where you can actually hear yourself think. The building itself has that understated Italian elegance that doesn’t try too hard, which honestly makes it feel more authentic than some of the flashier places closer to the arena.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about the location — you’re about a 15-minute walk to Juliet’s balcony and the main historic center, but you’re not paying those premium prices or dealing with the constant stream of tour groups. Viale Piave connects you easily to the rest of the city, and there’s actually decent parking right at the hotel, which anyone who’s driven in Italian city centers will tell you is worth its weight in gold. Couples seem to really appreciate this area (they rate it 8.1 apparently), and I can see why — it feels residential enough to be romantic without being isolated.
The Room Experience
My room was what you’d expect from a solid four-star in Italy — well-maintained, comfortable bed, and that particular attention to detail that Italian hoteliers seem to nail every time. Nothing groundbreaking, but everything worked properly, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed. The bathrooms are modern enough, and you get good natural light during the day. What struck me most was how quiet it was at night — even though you’re in the city, the street doesn’t get much through traffic after evening hours.
Food & Breakfast
The breakfast setup here actually impressed me more than I expected. They do this buffet spread that covers all the bases — continental options, proper Italian pastries and coffee (because let’s be real, that matters), plus they’ve got vegan and gluten-free choices that don’t feel like afterthoughts. The restaurant gets solid reviews too, and from what I sampled, they know what they’re doing in the kitchen. I mean, you’re in Italy, so you’ll probably want to explore the local dining scene, but it’s nice knowing you can eat well without leaving the hotel if you’re tired or the weather’s not cooperating.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about Hotel Leon d’Oro is that it doesn’t oversell itself — it just delivers consistently on the things that matter most when you’re traveling. You get a good night’s sleep, solid food, helpful staff, and a location that puts you in the mix without overwhelming you. Recent guests rate the location at 8.0, which feels about right to me. It’s the kind of place where you spend your time exploring Verona rather than hanging around the hotel, but you’re genuinely happy to come back at the end of the day. For the price point and what you get, it’s honestly hard to find much to complain about.

Near to bus/train station
What could be improved: Could do with better signage en route for walkers from station. Ditch the coffee machines and provide flasks of coffee.Arben from Albania – 23 September 2024 (9/10)
The hotel was excellent, but they did not adhere to the conditions of our Booking.com reservation.
What could be improved: We had reserved a room for two people with separate beds, but we were placed in a room with a double bed instead. We booked through Booking.com and paid all the necessary taxes, yet we were unexpectedly charged an additional 15 euros per person for taxes. We’re confused about why the room was changed and why we incurred extra charges!Ana from Germany – 14 June 2024 (8/10)
The hotel is great! Very comfortable, nice breakfast, with private parking (payed) which was perfect to leave the car there and go out the next full day and pick it up in the afternoon.
Also, when there is traffic, there is a street just outside of the hotel, that brings you to a street without much traffic.
There is also a close supermarket.
What could be improved: Nothing I can remember.
