Relais Villa dei Gelsi & Spa Overview

First Impressions

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Relais Villa dei Gelsi & Spa — the street looked pretty ordinary from the main road. But once you turn into their driveway, everything changes. This four-star property sits in what feels like a secret garden, with mature trees and this sense of being completely removed from the city buzz. The villa itself has that classic Veneto charm without feeling stuffy, you know? And the parking situation is actually fantastic — free and right on-site, which is honestly a godsend when you’re dealing with Italian city centers.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I really appreciated about the location in Verona — you’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough out to actually sleep well. It’s about a 15-minute drive to the Arena and the historic center, which means you can easily pop in for dinner or sightseeing without dealing with the tourist chaos right outside your window. The couples I met there seemed to really get this balance — you can have your romantic Verona moments, then retreat back to this peaceful spot. Plus, being on Via Carlo Donati puts you in a residential area where you can actually find decent local spots for coffee.

The Room & Spa Experience

My room was larger than I expected, with this nice mix of traditional Italian touches and modern comfort. The beds are properly comfortable — not just pretty to look at — and the bathrooms are well-designed with good water pressure. But honestly, the spa is where this place really shines. It’s not huge, but it’s thoughtfully done, and after a day of walking around Verona’s cobblestones, that’s exactly what you need. The treatments feel genuine rather than just going through the motions, if that makes sense.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast setup impressed me more than I thought it would. They’ve got this buffet that actually caters to different dietary needs — I mean, proper vegan and gluten-free options, not just an afterthought. The continental spread includes some really good local items alongside the standard fare. What I liked was that they seemed to source things locally when possible, so you’re getting a taste of the region rather than generic hotel food. The restaurant area has this lovely terrace where you can sit outside when the weather’s nice, which in Verona is most of the time.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t the flashiest place you’ll ever stay, but that’s actually part of its appeal. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work well — they’re helpful without being hovering, and they know the area well enough to give you real recommendations. The combination of being peaceful but accessible, plus having that spa element, makes it work particularly well for couples who want to explore Verona but also want some downtime. And honestly, given how well-rated it is by recent guests, I think a lot of people are discovering what I found — sometimes the best experiences come from places that focus on doing things well rather than trying to impress you with flashy amenities.

Exceptional…..Amazing…. Lovely place with strong story

  • Cosimo from Italy – 2 January 2025 (10/10)

Best views of Verona, amazing and quiet spot and incredibly well furnished and cared place. Two swimming pools add to the idea of a Citycation. Verona few minutes away and all the quiet of the countryside.

  • Melissa from Australia – 22 October 2024 (10/10)

When a place is cared for by the owner and the staff respect the owner you can feel that type of love in every communication and every detail. Our family loved being here and sharing Verona from this space.

  • Daniela from Italy – 7 October 2024 (10/10)

    Quite and elegant

What could be improved: There was a free dog on the premises

  • George from United Kingdom – 30 September 2024 (9/10)

Facilities and staff was amazing, considering my flight was late on the day of check out the hotel managed to accommodate me on such short notice and let me have the room until later on in the day.

I would highly recommend but book and vehicle as taxis can be a nightmare to get in Verona.

  • Jasmin from United States – 23 September 2024 (10/10)

Everything about my stay was perfect. It was super quiet and calm and comfortable. I wanted to stay an extra day! The staff were super friendly and welcoming to me and my little dog. The chef even baked me a special gluten free oatmeal cake for breakfast! It made me feel seen and heard and welcomed. Get the fresh juices and omelette and the strong cappucino. So many gluten free options for breakfast, as I am intolerant. Also, I loved the smell of roses and other flowers on the property. It was fun to stay at a dog friendly property.

What could be improved: I really wanted to swim in the pools, but I am a sissy for cold water. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the hot tub and sauna. I love that you can swim 24/7, in case you have jet lag. The sauna closes at 11pm, when reception closes.

Luxurious, comfortable and lovely to be in

    What could be improved: Nothing

Fantastic location in the nature but still close to the city. Perfect to relax and lounge outside and in the salt water pool.

  • Melanie from New Zealand – 15 July 2024 (10/10)

The rooms are gorgeous, comfy beds, delicious, beautiful gardens. We really felt relaxed and well looked after during our stay here. I would highly recommend this boutique hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful with taxis and information of taxis, sites and places to eat, thank you for looking after us and ensuring we got the most out of our stay.

What could be improved: I can’t think of anything we didn’t like
