Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Residenza Palazzo Negri almost by accident last spring when I was wandering through Verona’s old town – I mean, I’d just come from grabbing a gelato at that little spot on Via Mazzini, and suddenly there I was on Vicolo San Matteo, this narrow alley that’s tucked away from the main tourist drag but still just a five-minute stroll from the Arena. It’s in one of those historic buildings that Verona’s full of, you know, with those weathered stone walls that whisper stories from the Renaissance or whatever – honestly, stepping inside felt like 4-star, but it punches way above its weight with a 9.5 rating that totally checks out. Parking’s a nightmare in the historical center, by the way; I ended up ditching my rental at that garage near Ponte Pietra and walking the rest, which was fine since the streets are mostly pedestrian anyway. Check-in was a breeze – the owner, this chatty local guy named Marco (I think?), handed over the keys with a quick rundown of the best nearby osterias, and before I knew it, I was up in my room, which overlooked this quiet courtyard with ivy climbing the walls and the faint echo of church bells from San Matteo nearby.

What really got me about the place – well, besides the fact that it’s not some cookie-cutter chain – is how they’ve kept the old palazzo vibe without making it stuffy. My suite had these original frescoes on the ceiling, sort of faded but charming, and the bed was one of those massive, sink-right-in kinds with linens that smelled like fresh lavender (they must use some local detergent or something). Breakfast was included, nothing fancy, but oh man, the cappuccinos were spot-on, and they’d set out these homemade crostata tarts that tasted like my nonna’s – eaten on a tiny terrace where you could hear the market bustle from Piazza delle Erbe starting up around 8 a.m. It’s not huge, so it feels intimate; I chatted with a couple from Milan over coffee one morning about dodging the summer crowds – Verona gets packed during opera season at the Arena, but this spot’s alley is blissfully quiet at night, no late-night revelers stumbling by. That said, if you’re not great with stairs, heads up – it’s an old building, so no elevator, and lugging bags up to the second floor was a bit of a workout after a day of exploring. The Wi-Fi was solid, though, and they had these little touches like fresh fruit in the room and recommendations for hidden spots like the Giardino Giusti, which is just a 10-minute walk east and way less touristy than the main sites.

All in all, if you’re heading to Verona and want something that feels authentic without breaking the bank – it’s not cheap, but for the location and that personal feel, it’s worth it – I’d say book here. It’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who appreciate the history; I spent evenings sipping Valpolicella on the balcony, watching the light fade over the rooftops, and it just reset my whole trip. Just time it right – avoid peak July if you hate heat and hordes, but spring or fall? Magic. You won’t regret ditching the big hotels for this gem.

Lovely well equipped room with balcony in a central location. Host was amazingly helpful and friendly.

The place is super well located run the middle of every thing, The rooms are very large clean and comfy, Luisa answered all my questions very fast and she speaks perfect Spanish, English and of course Italian and maybe another language, I would rent this place again if I go to Verona again.

What could be improved: The only but is that some rooms are in the 3rd floor and no elevator so if you have large luggage it can be an issue,
But they were very nice and helped us with it going out. There are other rooms in the 2nd floor.

  • Francisco from United States – 14 January 2025 (10/10)

We rented 3 rooms they were very spacious clean and confortable, Luisa the host is the best, she was so attentive and fast in all que questions. She is by far the best host I have ever met.
The place is great situated if you have a car you can unload and load the luggage just in front, and then there is parking very close by. The only thing you have to be aware of is that there is not elevator so you will have to take the luggage up the stairs.

What could be improved: Nothing every thing was great

  • Claire from United Kingdom – 29 November 2024 (10/10)

The room was absolutely magnificent, spacious, with soaring high ceilings, and decorated in a stunning Italian style that made it feel truly special. From the bed, you can gaze up at the beautiful painting on the ceiling, which adds a magical touch to the experience. The hot tub in the room was romantic, and simply fantastic for a relaxing and memorable stay.

The bed was large and extremely comfortable, and we loved the quirky details throughout the room. The shower is in the bathroom, but there’s a window that opens from the main room into the shower area, creating a fun and distinctive layout.

The location is unbeatable, right in the heart of the historical center. It’s just steps away from all the main attractions, picturesque streets, and incredible restaurants serving fantastic food.

The host was very friendly and easy to communicate with, making the entire experience smooth and welcoming. The property was easy to find, and the value for money was outstanding. Despite the size of the room, it was warm and the heating is good.

We absolutely loved our stay, the room was a dream—thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Our stay at Residenza Palazzo Negri was truly exceptional. The host went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. Their kindness and helpfulness made us feel right at home.
The rooms were spacious, immaculately clean, and perfectly located. We were able to easily walk to all the major attractions within 10-15 minutes.
As digital nomads, reliable WiFi is essential. We were thrilled with the fast and stable internet connection, which allowed us to work seamlessly with our US clients. The overall cleanliness of the facilities was impressive. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We rented 2 rooms one for me and my wife and the second for the inlaws and their room, service and area was just a clean and nice as ours. This is the second time we are here and things are always on the up and up as well as the service has always been nice.

What could be improved: All was amazing
